Working Hard, but Struggling to Make Ends Meet
ALICE stands for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed—households that work hard yet still struggle to afford basic necessities like housing, child care, food, transportation, health care, and technology. These individuals and families are employed, often in essential roles, but their incomes don’t stretch far enough to meet the rising cost of living.
In Bulloch County, 37% of households fall below the ALICE threshold, meaning more than one-third of our neighbors face financial instability even while they are working.
The ALICE initiative in Bulloch County is a collaborative effort between United Way of Southeast Georgia, Georgia Southern University, and local community organizations. Together, we study the root causes of financial hardship and work to develop sustainable, community-based solutions that support ALICE households and strengthen the economic well-being of our region.
A Hands-On Experience that Brings Data to Life
A Data Walk is a powerful, interactive way for community members to explore the real issues affecting Bulloch County. Participants move through a series of data stations—each focused on topics like Education, Income & Financial Stability, Health, and ALICE —where facilitators share insights and lead meaningful conversations.
This format turns data into dialogue, inviting residents, leaders, and organizations to learn, reflect, and help shape solutions for our community.
A Data Walk isn’t just an event—it’s a shared step toward meaningful change.
